Dear Weehawken Families,

With the holidays approaching expected travel and gatherings, the Weehawken Public Schools will be closed for in-person learning and will be fully virtual from November 30, 2020 until December 10th, 2020. We will reopen on December 11th, which will be Cohort A day. This will keep our community safer allowing those who travel during the Thanksgiving Break to quarantine themselves. As one of only three (3) districts in Hudson County to have even opened for in-person learning, we are determined to continue to provide both in-person and virtual education. Barring any new positive cases or an unforeseen situation, the school district will remain open for in-person learning until November 25, 2020. However, the situation remains fluid. The District will remain open for lunch distribution on Mondays between 12-1pm, disinfecting, cleaning, technical issues and other concerns.

Further, we must remind you of a few VERY important items to continue to ensure the safety of our entire school community. Please do not send your child to school if s/he has any symptoms of illness If your child has the following symptoms, please keep your child home for the day and consult with a doctor:

Fever of 100.4 or higher

Cough

Shortness of breath

Difficulty breathing

New loss of smell

New loss of taste

If your child has TWO or more of the following symptoms, please keep your child home for the day and consult with a doctor:

Chills

Rigors (shivers)

Myalgia (muscle aches)

Headache

Sore Throat

Nausea or Vomiting

Diarrhea

Fatigue

Congestion or runny nose

Please keep your child home for the following reasons as well:

If your child has had close contact (within 6 feet for a least 10 minutes) with a person with confirmed Covid19

Someone in your household is quarantined or diagnosed with Covid19

Also, please adhere to the NJ Travel Advisory list. You and your children must quarantine in your home for 14 days, if you travel to a banned state or leave the country. If you gather in a large group over these holidays or suspect you have been in contact with someone with the virus, you should consider a self-imposed quarantine as well. If you travel out of state, please let us know by emailing [email protected] or completing this form: https://forms.gle/1NSxEUfA7D4H473U8.

If you or any member of your family tests positive, please email [email protected]. Additionally, be sure to regularly check your email, as we will send you a letter via email if the Health Department determines that your child was in close contact with someone infected. We expect that the next few months will be unlike any other holiday season you have celebrated before but we still hope you will be able to enjoy the season’s spirit of gratitude and joy. As always, we appreciate our community’s support and cooperation. You can assist us by remaining vigilant but sensible in your approach to dealing with this health concern.
