My teaching career began in Hoboken as an elementary school teacher. There, I was a homeroom teacher and taught students in Kindergarten, 4th grade, and departmentalized English for grades for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th for six wonderful years. I then moved onto teaching in Jersey City and provided Basic Skills, ESL services, and supplemental instruction for students in Kindergarten through 8th grades for eight years. Presently, I have been the ESL teacher in the Weehawken school district. I have been at Roosevelt School for a good number of years instructing the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. The newcomers receive basic language skills needed to transition while the Intermediate and Advanced Leveled students are instructed in areas that help continue to build vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension of the English Language. The practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in content areas such as Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies.
In the past, I had also instructed many of the Roosevelt School students in a basic cooking class as well as teaching adults Italian cooking in an after-school recreational program that was offered at the High School. I also provided extra support to students in an After School Homework Assistance Program.
